Swim Meet 101: Everything You Need to Know

Welcome to the season! To ensure a smooth experience for our swimmers and families, please review this quick guide on what to expect and what to bring.

đź•’ When to Arrive

  • Home Meets: 4:45 PM
  • Away Meets: 5:15 PM
  • Warm-ups: Start promptly at 5:00 PM for home meets and 5:30 PM for away meets. Please have your swimmer ready in the pool by these times.

🎒 The Packing List

What to Wear:

  • Blue swimsuit and Blue Titans T-shirt.
  • Check the "Theme of the Week" for fun dress-up clothes!

What to Bring:

  • Goggles & Swim Cap (essential!)
  • 2–3 Towels per swimmer (they get wet fast).
  • Folding Chairs (for parents and athletes).
  • Cash or Venmo for the concession stand.
  • Umbrella: We swim in the rain! (Unless there is lightning).
  • Sharpie

⚠️ What NOT to Bring:

  • Alcohol: Prohibited at all Cobb Summer Swim League events. Referees monitor this strictly; possession can result in team disqualification. Save the drinks for the after-meet party!

📍 First Steps Upon Arrival

  • Claim Your Spot: Set up your folding chairs in the designated team area.
  • Check-In: See the coaches/coordinators immediately.
  • Mark Your Swimmer: Using a Sharpie, write your child’s Event #, Heat #, and Lane # on their arm (check the Heat Sheet for these).
  • Volunteer Check-In: If you are a volunteer, attend the meeting with the County Referee at 5:45 PM and grab your supplies (clipboard, timer, etc.).

Note: 2nd half volunteers should be at their post by Event 43.

🏊 Meet Logistics

  • The Bullpen: This is the gathering area near the diving well. Swimmers must report here 2 events before their race. Parent volunteers will help line them up.
  • Heat Sheets: These are the "master schedules." Look for your child’s name to find their numbers.
  • Example: A marking of 1/2 means Heat 1, Lane 2.
  • SwimTopia App: Downlaod the app! You can also track live event progress and find your child’s specific events here.

đź“– Quick Vocabulary

  • Heat Sheet: The program for the meet.
  • Event: The specific race (e.g., 7-8 Boys 50 yd Freestyle).
  • Heat: A division of an event. Heat 1 is usually the fastest.
