June 2nd Swim Meet

Hello Titans!  My apologies for the long-winded email, but this is all vital information to help our practices and meets run as smoothly as possible.  We are so excited to get the 2022 season off to a great start and so impressed with the improvements we have seen so early in the season!

Changes to Practice procedures: Safety is our number one goal for our swimmers. There is no lifeguard on duty during practices, so please take note of these changes:

Parents can sit in any of the chairs on deck except for the shallow end and deep end where the swimmers are starting and finishing laps. This includes the Guppy Group. The coaches need the swimmers' attention and room to work with the kids during practice without distractions. They will let you know if they need your assistance during practice.

Swimmers should not enter the pool without direction from the coaches. Please wait at the shallow end for our coaches to start warm-ups.

Use of the deep end will be restricted to the last 5 minutes of each group's practice at the discretion of the coaches. No one should enter the deep end or diving board area without permission from the coaches. The diving board will be open for our fun day practices the day after the meets.

When practice is over for your age group, all swimmers must exit the pool. Coaches need to turn their attention to the next age group starting their practice. Parents, please be ready to collect your kids out of the pool at the end of their practice time. Thanks in advance for your help with these updates!

Regular practice times tomorrow!  During tomorrow's practice, we will distribute swim caps to those interested in using one for the meets. T-shirts will most likely be delivered tomorrow afternoon, so we are hoping to get those out to you Thursday night at the swim meet.

Need a last-minute racing suit?  All American Swim is a store located in Roswell that has racing suits in stock.  Navy is preferred, but NOT required.  Please call ahead to ensure they have what you are looking for: 770-400-9870.  Dick's Sporting Goods also has a limited selection.

What to do BEFORE the meet:

Declare, Declare, Declare!  Please go to Swimtopia immediately to declare your swimmer's meet attendance if you have not already done so.  The meet software will not enter them in any races if this step is not completed. We are giving an extra grace period to declare for the first meet and will close the meet tomorrow at 9 am.  However, next week there will be an earlier deadline to declare - look for an email notification for more information going forward.

We will send out the heat sheet for the meet at approximately 2 pm tomorrow via email.  View the heat sheet to find your swimmer(s) events.  You can also print a copy to have with you at the meet.  It helps to print the heat sheet and highlight your swimmer's events. Please talk with your swimmers about what they are swimming so they can be prepared.

Use a Sharpie to write their names and age on their left shoulder. Then mark their left arm with a chart that lists Events, Heat, Lane, and name of Event - see the link below for reference:

Marking Arm

****There is also an arm marking tutorial on our Swimtopia Page.

*** Please be aware that the heat sheet will have a few last-minute changes due to no-shows and late entries. Coaches will ensure your swimmers know what to do in case of an event change.

Our meet is at home: please arrive by 4:45- this allows time to find a seat, adjust goggles/swim caps, and finish any arm markings.  Meets are Rain or Shine - we will not cancel a meet due to rain.  We are also at the mercy of the referee when calling for a delay or cancellation.  Swimmers should always report to the meet in the event of rain unless you receive an email in advance.

Warm-ups begin at 5 pm according to age:

Ages 5-10:  5 - 5:15

Ages 11 and up:  5:15-5:30

The meet will start promptly at 6 pm

We will have a board that displays the event that is currently taking place. Swimmers should report to the deep end of their lanes 3 events prior to the start of their individual events.  They need to report to their lane for relays 5 events prior

Example: if you are swimming in the individual event #5, you should report to your lane during event #2.  If they are swimming in a relay that is event #14, they should report to their lane during event #9. Once they report to their lane, one of the coaches or bullpen volunteers will direct them on what to do next.

Changes to Racing start location:  All races will now start in the deep end.  Timers will need to move to the shallow end for races that are only 1 lap - more info on that before the meet. Relays will also start in the deep end - it is very important to listen to your coaches to make sure you are in the right spot for your relay.  They may need to make last-minute changes!

Volunteering: We are in need of filling a few more jobs.  Please sign up for one through Swimtopia if you have not done so already.

1st half jobs will work through event #43. The first half is usually finished between 7:30 - 7:45

2nd half jobs will take over at event #43.  The meet is usually finished by 9-9:30. 10 pm would be in the event of delays out of our control.

***These times are estimates, so please be flexible.

Timers, announcers, starters, and place judges will have a meeting with the referee between 5:30-5:45. This is a great time to ask any last-minute questions.

Becky and Meredith will be available during warm-ups to answer questions and get you started on your volunteer job.  There are also plenty of parents from past years that will help you get familiar with your responsibilities.

Items to bring to the meet:

Goggles, 2 towels, extra sharpie, extra hair ties if needed, camping chairs (we will not use the pool chairs), money for concessions, spirit and a great attitude!  Be ready to cheer for your team!

Although the first meet always brings uncertainties and nervousness, we know that our team is ready for a fun and fantastic night. We feel great about our swimmers, coaches, and volunteers rising to the occassion for a successful meet!  Thank you for all of the kind words and encouragement.

Last, but not least: Go Titans!!!!

Becky, Meredith, and Coach Azita
